Project Overview
For the kitchen at Uplands College, Gunning & Son specified a Stonclad UTS polyurethane HACCP flooring system across 150 m² at 6 mm and worked with the applicator to deliver it. The system was selected for a commercial catering environment where hot water, grease, food spillage and constant cleaning are part of daily use.
The finished floor gives the kitchen a seamless surface that meets food-hygiene requirements and stays slip resistant when wet. Removing joints and grout lines makes the space faster to clean and removes the crevices where food residue and bacteria collect, supporting safe catering for the school.

Scope of Work
Gunning & Son’s role covered selecting a system suited to a catering kitchen and supporting its delivery within the school’s calendar, so the kitchen could be returned to service ready for catering. Installation was carried out by the applicator.

Site Conditions & Challenges
A working kitchen floor faces hot water, oils, food acids and heavy foot traffic, all while needing to remain hygienic and safe underfoot. Because a school kitchen cannot be out of use for long, the work had to be completed within a defined window and handed back ready for catering. Specifying the system and detailing the coving around fixed equipment and wall junctions required care to close the floor fully against contamination.

Our Approach
Gunning & Son recommended Stonclad UTS at 6 mm with a slip-resistant finish suited to the wet conditions of a catering kitchen, and specified coving carried up the wall junctions to seal the floor for wash-down. Working alongside the applicator, the company provided product and technical guidance so the system was installed as specified and delivery was programmed around the school’s schedule. The kitchen could then be prepared, laid, cured and returned to service within the available window, ready for food preparation.

Results Delivered
The Uplands College kitchen gained a seamless 150 m² floor that withstands hot water, grease and daily cleaning while staying slip resistant underfoot. The hygienic, coved finish supports safe food preparation and is quicker to clean than a tiled floor, giving the school a durable catering surface with lower ongoing maintenance.
