Gunning & Son specified a Stonclad UTS polyurethane HACCP system for the butchery and back-of-house areas of the SPAR at The Crossing, Nelspruit, and supported the applicator to deliver a seamless, hard-wearing floor.

Project Overview
For the SPAR at The Crossing in Nelspruit, Gunning & Son specified a Stonclad UTS polyurethane HACCP flooring system across the butchery and back-of-house areas and worked with the applicator to deliver it. The system suits food-preparation and service zones that see constant moisture, spillage and staff and trolley movement.
The finished floor provides a seamless surface that meets food-handling hygiene standards while standing up to daily wear and cleaning. Removing joints and grout lines makes the areas quicker to clean and reduces the places where contamination can build up.

Scope of Work
Gunning & Son’s role covered selecting a system for the store’s food-preparation and back-of-house zones and supporting its delivery around trading and cleanliness requirements. Installation was carried out by the applicator.

Site Conditions & Challenges
Back-of-house and butchery floors take heavy daily use while needing to meet food-safety hygiene standards, a combination that quickly finds the weak points in a jointed or worn floor. Delivering the work in a trading supermarket meant coordinating around opening hours, cleanliness and limited access, with each area needing to be prepared and returned to service without holding up store operations. Moisture and constant traffic had to be accounted for in both the specification and the finish.

Our Approach
Gunning & Son recommended Stonclad UTS for the store’s high-use food areas, specifying coving and detailing that seal the floor against contamination and channel water to drainage. Working alongside the applicator, the company provided product and technical guidance so the system was installed as specified and delivery was sequenced to fit the store’s trading pattern. Each zone was returned to service once cured, allowing the butchery and back-of-house areas to be renewed progressively while the store continued to operate around the work.

Results Delivered
The SPAR at The Crossing received a seamless, hygienic floor able to take sustained back-of-house traffic and wash-down without failing at joints. The finish supports food-handling hygiene and reduces cleaning effort and maintenance compared with tiled floors, giving the butchery and service areas a durable, easily maintained surface.
